R-22 Refrigerant Phasing Out The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) determined that R-22 refrigerant (also known as the brand FREON®), a common refrigerant for residential heat pumps and air conditioning systems, is not environmentally-friendly. The EPA is regulating the production and use of refrigerants and in the future all of the air conditioning and heat pump refrigerants that contain chlorine will be eliminated. What does this mean for you? If you currently have a heating and cooling system that uses R-22 refrigerant, it does not mean you have to panic or run out to purchase a new system. Production of R-22 refrigerant is winding down, and while the costs will increase, production will go on until 2020. At that point recycled refrigerants should be obtainable for a while. Because of this change, Church Services in Houston offers R410A, a more environmentally friendly solution for refrigerants which will reduce the damage to the ozone layer. Almost half of home energy costs may go toward heating and cooling the home. At Church Services, our experts are committed to offering products that are less taxing on the environment while realizing your desire for a comfortable heating and cooling system.
