Get Excited for These New Shows This Season Published on September 21, 2016 The temperatures are beginning to cool but primetime television is heating up! Since you’re likely to be spending more time inside during the upcoming months, Church Services is here with the shows that we’re excited for this season. So get ready to curl up with a fuzzy blanket and a cup of hot tea while you hunker down for a TV-packed fall. Chicago Justice (Sundays on NBC) It all started with our favorite firefighters and EMTs at Firehouse 51. After we met a few police officers and detectives, including originally-hated-now-loved Sgt. Hank Voight, Chicago P.D. premiered in 2014. Last year, a team of nurses and doctors in Chicago became the well-received Chicago Med, allowing for suspenseful crossovers with all our Chicago shows. In winter 2017, the network will add Chicago Justice to the list. We met a few of the characters on Chicago P.D. last spring and this season we’ll get to follow the team of prosecutors and investigators. Dick Wolf has developed quite the showing with the Chicago-based series that intertwine and has the potential to take us from the original crime (commonly arson), to the investigation (with the help of the Intelligence Unit ran by Voight), to the ones lucky to live and the ones who are unlucky (shown through our medical team), and now all the way to the final resolution where our new heroes will seek justice. 24: Legacy (Sundays on FOX) When we first heard about 24, we could immediately hear the “beep, beep, beep” counting down the seconds and our hearts jumped at the notion of Jack Bauer coming back into our televisions. However, as the show says, it is a new day and we have a new hero. Kiefer Sutherland will be an executive producer on at least one episode, but our new hero is Eric Carter, portrayed by Corey Hawkins, a military hero arriving home to the United States with trouble right behind him. He goes to CTU (yes, it’s back!) for help saving his life, while of course stopping a terrorist attack. The update of an old favorite will abide by the same 24 hour, one hour = one episode, structure as before so hopefully we can look forward to the epic countdowns each commercial break. Designated Survivor (Wednesdays on ABC) Just when the devastation sinks in because you won’t be seeing Kiefer Sutherland in the 24 reboot, your hopes are back because he’s going to be on a new show and on this show, instead of saving the president, he is the president. On Designated Survivor, Kiefer Sutherland plays Tom Kirkman, the Secretary of Housing and Urban Development, who becomes the President of the United States after an explosion kills everyone before him in the Presidential line of succession. We can’t wait! This Is Us (Tuesdays on ABC) If you loved Parenthood, critics say this show is for you. This Is Us trails a group of people who are linked by the fact that they have the same birthday. Rebecca (portrayed by Mandy Moore) and Jack (depicted by Milo Ventimiglia) are married and getting ready to have three babies on Jack’s 36th birthday. Randall (portrayed by Sterling K. Brown who just earned an Emmy for his depiction of Christopher Darden in The People v O.J. Simpson: American Crime Story) is a man celebrating his 36th birthday trying to resolve whether or not he should go see his father who abandoned him when he was born. Kate (played by Chrissy Metz) and Kevin (portrayed by Justin Hartley) are twins who are spending their 36th birthday grappling with their unhappy lives, with Kate trying to change her eating habits and Kevin dissatisfied with his current job.
