Residential Foundation Repair

Foundation performance is strictly related to the strength of the soil providing the structural support.
In the Houston area, the upper clay soil layers generally have high bearing strengths, but often times also have the undesirable characteristic of swelling when moisture is added and shrinking when moisture is extracted.
Being aware of the importance of maintaining proper levels of moisture around the foundation is an important factor for foundation stability.
Conditions around a foundation such as poor drainage, leaking pipes, or other concentrated water discharge conditions can cause erosion, loss of bearing strength, and possible swelling of the supportive clay soil.
In the other extreme, drought conditions can also cause shrinkage of certain clay soils and a loss of support to the foundation slab.
Trees located too close to the foundation can also withdraw a tremendous amount of moisture from the soil and the supporting clay soil layer.
In dry conditions, trees near a foundation will make a bad situation even worse because trees will seek needed moisture from the foundation soils in order to survive.

Steps of Installing Segmented Pilings

Phase I - Digging of the Boxes Upon arrival at your home, the supervisor will notify the homeowner of the crews presence. Supervisor will designate location of pilings. Breakout of any concrete or paving by a jackhammer. Hand dig access hole beneath the grade beam. These holes are typically the size of a door mat. Phase II - Installing the Piling Access to the interior is necessary because we need to utilize three to four electrical outlets that are on separate circuits. This is for our power units that will be driving the pilings. Concrete pilings are pressed down with the ram using the power units. The weight of the structure is being used to drive the pilings. As one piling is driven, another piling is placed on top of the driven piling. This process is repeated until the required depth and resistance is reached. The depth of the pilings will be determined by the soil makeup at your residence. This depth can range from 12 feet to over...

Phase I Upon arrival at your home, the supervisor will notify the homeowner of the crews presence. The supervisor will designate the location of piers. At that time, shrubs and plants will be removed from the digging areas and placed into buckets or replanted in a location designated by you. The boxing procedure is the next step. This procedure involves the manual excavation of boxes below the slab beam creating the pier cap. A fifteen foot test hole is drilled on the property to determine the depth of stable load bearing clay for the placement of the bell bottom footing. Phase II Once the boxing procedure is complete and the depth of the stable clay is determined, a pier shaft will be dug mechanically to the depth of the load bearing clay.
